H-NET.NET Focuses On Intel(R)-Based Servers To Support Worldwide Vision Care E-Commerce Network

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- H-NET.NET, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: HNSP), a leading provider of enterprise software for the vision care industry, is building its e-Commerce network and hosted business application services around Intel®-based servers to support its growing, worldwide business. H-NET.NET is standardizing on Intel® (Nasdaq: INTC) Pentium® III processor-based systems to provide business-to-business e- Commerce services for vision care professionals including retail opticians, retail chain home offices, optometrists, ophthalmologists and optical laboratories.

H-NET.NET offers Web design, various development services and business application software for the vision care industry over its Web site, http://www.h-net.net, as well as a continuing education program for license maintenance and training of optometrists, opticians, technicians and other eye care professionals. Other offerings provide supply chain automation and hosted services, information on new technologies, available products and industry news, and advertising opportunities in the company's Web magazine, ``Visions.''

Intel Architecture Recommended

``We specify Intel Architecture for all our machines, whether desktop or server,'' said Ray Coty, H-NET.NET vice president. ``We also strongly recommend Intel to our clients. And as a member of the Microsoft Advisory Panel and official beta site for numerous applications, H-NET.NET is continually pushing the envelope to provide value for health care clients.''

H-NET.NET uses Compaq Computer Corp. ProLiant* servers with Intel Pentium processors in single, two-way and four-way configurations at its Toronto data center. They perform a variety of business-directed applications including file and transaction services, mapping, translating, Web-based Virtual Private Network (VPN) and streaming-media database support. The systems run Microsoft* Windows* 2000 and Windows NT (Server and Workstation) operating systems. Microsoft application software includes Developer's Studio*, SQL Server* 7.0 and 2000, and Streaming Media*.

Scalability Supports Growth

Well established in North America, H-NET.NET is now extending its services to Latin America, Europe and the Middle East, supplying solutions to vision care clinics and chain offices. India and China are next on the expanding roadmap. The company also intends to enter the consumer e-Commerce market in early 2001 with its own Web frame program, CyberFit*. To support its growth plans, H-NET.NET is installing eight-way Intel Pentium III servers at the Toronto data center.

According to Coty, H-NET.NET chose Intel-based servers for their reliability, ease of network scalability, and wealth of application support. ``High availability is important to any business with worldwide activities,'' Coty said. ``Since the beginning of 1998, we have had zero downtime, which is especially critical for health care transactions.''
